Friend gas a Dell 720 printer which she reports is fading. Says
cartridges are fairly new (from Dell). Black starts to print and dies
and colors are not doing well.

Ideas?

TIA

Lou

IT IS A LEXMARK REBADGED BY DELL AND CRIPPLED SO YOU HAVE TO BUY CARTS
FROM DELL. TRASH IT AND BUY A CANON IP5200 AND USE CANON OEM INK

Dell printers are rebadged Lexmark printers, using Lexmark cartridges
that have been specialized to fit into the Dell series of printers.

I don't use either, but any information you read about Lexmark
cartridges will be the same for Dell.

Since Lexmark printers have the head built into the cartridges, if a
printer cleaning cycle doesn't fix the problems, I suggest she remove
the cartridges and lay the head side (the surface that the printing
occurs from) down gently on some paper towels (with plastic under them
to avoid damage to furniture) which have been wet with warm water. Have
here gently press the head surface down into the wet paper towel several
times to get the dried ink clogs cleared. She should not scrub or wipe
the heads strongly, as the surface is fragile. Then, making sure the
contact surfaces are clean both in the printer and the cartridge (if not
she can gently wipe them down with rubbing alcohol) reinstall the
cartridge once the contact surfaces are dry. Run one cleaning cycle and
see if that resolves the problem.

If it does not, you can suggest she try using an ammoniated window
cleaner like windex on the paper towels instead.
