Deletion of user profile - now missing user data

Can anyone tell me if there is any way to recover a user profile directory
which was deleted from control panel / system / user profiles ? There was
numerous unrecognized account profiles which were removed from the system.
It turns out that one of the profiles that was deleted, had a current users
local data in documents and settings / user name etc etc... the removal
process has deleted the entire documents and settings user directory.

I am working on sending the hard drive to a data recovery specialist, but
wanted to see if there was something else that I could try.
