Deletion of Googlemail via IMAP

Hi,
I've got a Googlemail or Gmail account, and I use Outlook to send & recieve
mail - I've got it set up as an IMAP and everything works fine...

...apart from when I want to delete an email in Outlook.

You may know that Gmail works on the principal of views and lables, the
inbox is just a view of all the mail with the "label" "inbox".

When I delete an email using Outlook, all it does is remove the "inbox"
label - it doesn't actually delete the mail.

This means that every so ofter I have to fo into the Googlemail account and
manuallt delete all the mails from the "all mail" list that I don't want to
keep.

Is there any setting in outlook or the Gamil IMAP config that I can set, so
that when I tell Outlook to delete, it tells Gmail to "delete" not "remove
label".

Thanks

FYI I don't have an answer for you but...

I just installed gmail today and set it up in Outlook. In outlook I clicked
on the gmail email in the outlook gmail inbox and then clicked delete X and
it moved the email to the "all mail" folder of gmail that is displayed in
outlook.

So it seems to be working as it should.

Gene,
The "all mail" folder is just that - it's every single mail that you've got
[ except I think Spam ].
In Gmail, when you delete a mail - it deletes it for good.
In Outlook when you delete a mail - it just removes it from the inbox.

In about a years time when you "search" for a specifc mail in Outlook, and
you get get a whole list of mails back which you thought you'd deleted you'll
see my problem.

On the Edit menu - look for Purge folder.

If you don't see it, let us know the version (and don't trim the replies so
others can follow the thread).

It's 2007, although I'm not at home right now so I can't try it out.
I'll do it later and let you know if it works.

Thanks

Try to set up in gmail as POP rather than IMAP. If I remember correctly you
have the option of selecting the email to delete from gmail when you delete
it in outlook. let me know.
