I had Win2K running on my laptop and I managed to install in dual boot
Windows XP on this laptop. Now I want to delete Win2000 and leave
Windows XP.

Can any of you please throw some light how I can delete Win2000.

Apparently, you chose to ignore the warning message to not
attempt to install Windows XP in the same partition as the
original installation. Of course if you proceed, a minimal
installation will occur which it what you now have.

Backup your important files and prepare for a "clean install".

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

Just a few added remarks...

After you do the critical updates, scan your PC for viri & co.
Since some worms (like Sasser) can get you by simply
logging on, it is better to be sure.

If you do activate your XP by phone, go to the activation
screen and generate the looong code. Do not close this
dialog!!! Call MS, (I've done it, it isn't painful at all!) give
them the code and they'll give you back another long number.
Write this down carefully, check it twice for accuracy and
then type it in the capture fields. This has to be done in one
session. If you close the window that gave you long code,
then come back and open it again to type in the number that
MS gave you, it wont be valid, as the code that Windows
gave you and the code that MS gave are linked and time sensitive.

Try this, go to the activation screen and generate the number,
make a note of it. Close the window. Wait a few seconds and
open it again to generate the code again. They are different. I
learned this the hard way ! (somewhat embarrassing!)

I know this doesnt help your problem but i was wondering
how you managed to duel boot XP and 2000 as i have been
trying to do the same with 98 and XP for a while now.

I would be very grateful for any help.
