Once I have successfully downloaded and installed upgrades
can I go into Control Panel> Add/Remove Software and
remove the upgrades?

From my observation and raw experience in W2K. I think you
can, providing you select the option 'Archieve' during the
installation of the upgrades.
Let's see what others say...
