Using Outlook 2007 and Vista, I have tried to autoarchive my sent messages
with the messages being deleted permanently. I have checked the box and
entered 1 month and checked delete permanently, then apply, ok. However
nothing is being deleted.

What else can I do?

did you go to tools/options/other/autoarchive and check the box there?

No, I had right clicked on the Sent folder as someone in another post had
recommended. I will try it there.

I only set it on the Sent folder by right clicking it. I don't want any of
my other folders Autoarichived, just the Sent folder (emails deleted). I can
never find those archived messages once they are sent somewhere in my
notebook!
