Thanks very much everybody. It seems everyone is saying the same thing with
the difference the Phil Weldon has explained it in a very simple manner. I was doing it the harder way by using copy-paste instead of using move. Ok now I would like to ask. Is "Move" and "Send to" are the same? If yes can I customize the "Send To" (which we get by right clicking on any file or folder) to include my folders. Will not that make my work lot easier? I was doing it Win 98 just by creating shortcuts of my folders and putting them in the "Send To" folder. But I am not being able to find the "Send To" folder in Windows XP Pro. Hi,
One more question regarding "Move to folder" moving files or folders between two partitions is same as copy paste or what? Say I have a folder accounts ie. c:\myfolders\accounts and now i want to move the accounts folder to d:\newfolder. Can I use move here or it is same as copy-pasting? Moreover, I cannot find "Move" option on right clicking or no pop-up appears if I drag and drop in windows explorer. Only I get this option in Edit menu in Windows Explorer. Phil Weldon, I am sorry to say that you have got a wrong name "Phil Weldon"
it should have been "Phil Wisdom". You are excellent. Your knowledge and the ability to explain is above par. Thanks very much and now I have got my reply. You are doing it the hard way.

When you move files (or a file structure) from one folder to another in the same disk and partition the files are not really moved. The pointers in the directory are changed to reflect the new LOGICAL location; the PHYSICAL location does not change. Several thousand files totaling ten GBytes in a number of folders all under one upper level folder name can be 'moved' to a new folder in a few seconds because all that changes is the logical assignment, not the physical location. The trick is to MOVE the files and folder structure, not COPY - copy DOES make a duplicate of all the files and folder structure in a new physical location. In Windows Explorer select (in your example) the folder C:\Myfolder\accounts and MOVE it to C:\ (if there is not already a C:\accounts folder.) If there is already a C:\accounts folder then use the shift key and mouse to select all the subfolders and files under C:\Myfolder\account) Right click on the selection and choose 'Move' to C:\accounts . Then you may delete the now empty folder C:\Myfolder\accounts. The entire process will take a few seconds. Phil u r an old hand on computers. Thats great, I have learn about computers
by myself and from people like you only. Now, I can assemble PC, Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, installation of windows and linux os, etc. but since I haven't gone through any formal classes sometimes I don't know simplest of things. and sometimes, I ignore simple things, like this "Move" but this time I asked the question and was surprised to c the result. Move within same drive is like a magic. I am earning my bread and butter by providing service to ppl who find some problem in computers, maybe hardware or software and also learning everyday. Maybe some day I too will be know as Ravi Wisdom Vermal.
