Removing a POP3 account will not do this. Was it perhaps an Exchange, IMAP
or HTTP account instead? Then the messages would still be on the server.
Otherwise, look for pst-files on your computer and reconnect them to Outlook
via;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...
