How do I get this thing off my system? Its a work machine and a test box
with a small hard drive; I need the disk space back. but if I delete it the
files just magically reappear after half a minute or so. I thought it might
be System Restore putting them back so I turned that off, but they still
resurrect automatically every time I try to delete them. Yet its not an
installed program or an installed Windows component so it doesn't seem to
have a clear uninstall path other than delting the files...

You can't delete it but if HDD space is at THAT much of a premium (Movie
Maker is a VERY small program) then I think a new disc is in order since
they are extremely cheap these days.

Cheap, but not free - and I have to push it through somebodies budget, which
noone will want to do the paperwork for, because its a general test machine
and doesn't belong to any specific project. All because I need another 10 MB
of disk space - that 10MB right there, with Movie Maker sitting in it - and
something wont let me delete it.

Anybody know what the mechanism is that seems to be restoring the file? If
its actually restoring it, and not just preventing the deletion in the first
place, then that would imply at least another 10MB somewhere for the
backup... On the other hand, if XP is just preventing the deletion instead
of restoring it I should be able to remove it with a low-level file system
tool of some sort.

I think it really sucks that these folders can't be deleted and the programs
can't be uninstalled. Movie Maker, Front Page, Net Meeting, Gaming Zone.
Who's computer is this, anyway?

Rob, I read in another thread that supposedly if you start your computer in
Safe Mode, Windows will let you permanently delete the Movie Maker folder and
files. Of course, it will still remain in the system registry which could
potentially cause other issues. Supposedly there's also a program/tool
somewhere called XPLite that will let you remove unwanted Windows programs
(such as Games, MovieMaker, etc.). I haven't found or installed this tool
yet, but if it works it's worth looking for. Try Google. Hope that helps...

:-)
