How do I delete a message in my inbox and have it automatically purged from
the folder? Right now they have the line stricken through them but they stay
in the folder. I want them in the deleted items folder immediately without
having to do it myself.

That is the nature of IMAP accounts - it is behaving as expected. You need
to purge the inbox to have the messages disappear.
