I have 2 items that have automically downloaded as links
into the Tools menu (i.e. Tools button between Favorites
and Help) Can you tell me how you can delete them please.

You may want to run spyware scans to eliminate the possibility this is
caused by adware.

You can start with AdAware, this program will attempt to remove all spyware
programs, including those that could be responsible for the symptoms you are

Ensure that you update the program after you install it. This shall offer

Just in case the suggested spyware removers don't remove these items,
then try this:

Use Regedit.exe and remove the items. They should be under here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions
