deleting history

most times my system will not delete the history column.
i go to internet options and delete cookies, delete
temporary folders then delete history and click ok ( note
it won't accept clicking on the " apply " i then go to
my explorer toolbar and click on history and all my
history files are still there !!! i'm going out of my
frekin head trying to solve this. someone help please !!!
