In my FrontPage Publish dialog, I have so many MRUs for locations where I
could publish my web, the list is really too long (22) Some of them are
up-to-date, but some of them represent backups I have long since deleted
from their locations

Today I used Microsoft instructions
(Article ID : 313454 Last Review : January 31, 2007 Revision : 4.3

to delete the keys for
Recent File List
Recent Page List
Recent Web List
from HKEY_Current_User\Software\FrontPage\Explorer\FrontPage Explorer

After restarting my computer, I go back to the Publish dialog, to see if
they are gone.
It has removed only 2 out of 22.

Each time I return to the registry, there are usually 2 more MRUs for each
list.
Not sure if they find some more MRUs (under the same keys) each time, but
the first time it happened, I deleted those, also.

One thing I see in the registry immediately under those lists that was not
noted in the Microsoft Instructions for removing MRUs from FrontPage 2000
(Windows XP)
is another list under key called Recently Created Servers.

Can I delete that key also? It reads almost identical to the list of at
least half the locations that show up in my Publish dialog.

Try deleting the entries for those sites from "My Network Places".

Rob: It's been a long time ago that I deleted 5 backed up webs (published
to other drive) but still show up in the Publish dialog (see end of message)
and deleted one web from the My Webs folder (that still shows up in the
Publish dialog. I usually look up instructions if I'm not sure. Article ID :

I've just looked at the registry again.
from HKEY_Current_User\Software\FrontPage\
Under FrontPage\Editor\Find MRU, there are 2 folders
FrontPage Explorer, and Navigation.

Under FrontPage Explorer, the MRU lists are labeled
Recent File List (deleted the key, then a restart)
Recent Page list (deleted the key, then a restart)
Recent Web list (deleted the key, then a restart)
Recently Created Servers (did not delete, found that it is correct) (and
only reflects current active webs and good copies of current backups)

In the Navigation folder It shows my 4 *active* webs and under that is a
folder labeled MRU list for those four active webs. I don't plan on deleting
these MRUs, they are correct.

Under FrontPage\Editor
There are two folders (looks more like "History", not MRUs
- Opened
- Published
Inside the *Published folder* is the list of 22 entries that "exactly"
matches the locations to publish which are "also" found in the FrontPage
editor's Publish dialog (22). So the Publish dialog *contains a history
list*, not a *most recently used* list.

It would seem that, in that case, we should be able to get rid of those 6
items from the history list (that show up in the Publish dialog) that have
been long gone (on C:\ (1)), on D: \ (3), on H:\ (2), by deleting the name
or value from this "Published history list" at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage\Webs\Published

Will this work?
I'm familiar with the registry and backup the registry first.
And try not to ever go there.

Forgot about this one. Long time ago I went to the member control panel
where I "manage my account" and deleted that one web. It was in 2003. I just
found the confirmation email from the server's customer service.

I believe if you delete the webs from within FP you will not have that
problem in future...pretty sure...I think :-o
