Due to a huge amount of automated spam hitting my FrontPage forum, I have to
close it down. I have already altered the link from the index page, so that
there is no direct access to the old forum, but the automated stuff keeps on
arriving. What do I do to safely disable the forum, so that no more remote
postings can access it?

Is it a separate subweb? If so, open the remote forum in FP and delete it
on the host server. Then delete the subweb from your local machine.

If it's a folder in your main web, delete the folder on your local machine,
and publish your web with "changed pages only" checked.
