Deleting folder icons from desktop

My tech dragged one of my folders to my desktop, not noticing that I already
had a *shortcut* to that folder on the desktop. I'd like to get rid of it
because it's clutter I don't need. If I drag it to the Recycle Bin, I'm
afraid the folder itself will be deleted from the directory structure. Does
anyone know how I can accomplish this without imperiling my folder? Thanks
for any help.

If it does NOT have the little "shortcut" arrow then don't delete it...
simply use Windows Explorer to drag it back to it's original location...

(You can right click on the *shortcut* and look at properties
to see where the original location was , if you are not sure)
