Deleting extra line spaces in endnotes

I cannot delete extra line spaces in the endnotes of a ms. I am working on.
When I reveal the codes, they appear as paragraph marks. I do not believe the
document is locked, but for some reason I cannot delete these extra spaces.

You seem to be asking a question about a document in MS Word. This is not a
