Deleting default .pst file

I recently moved my .pst file from my old HP laptop to a new one, using
Outlook 2007 in both cases, POP3 (non-Exchange). I was able to restore the
original .pst to the new computer, and am now receiving emails to the
restored .pst file. The default .pst file (the one that Outlook
automatically creates when starting up Outlook for the first time) remains,
but is not being used. As a result, I have two calendars, two contact
lists, etc.

Something still isn't quite right though as I am unable to close the default
..pst file. That option is unavailable when right clicking. It will let me
delete the new .pst file, though. This is an issue in that my cell phone
isn't finding the .pst file I want it to find, and there are a couple other
minor nuisances.

The new .pst file is named Outlook (2) while the default one (that I'd like
to go away) is called Outlook (the default name assigned when opening Outlook
for the first time).

The only other thing that looks different is that when clicking on the
Properties, Home Page tab.. there is no home page for the .pst I want, while
there is one for the one I'd like to go away.

Hope this makes sense. Any ideas? If I need to move everything to the
default .pst file, how do I actually do that?

Thanks
Allan

Hi Allan,

you must change the "default" PST file.

You must make the new PST file to the delivery folder.

"Remove a duplicate Personal Folders file"
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...170471033.aspx

Maybe it helps.

Your description does not fit. If indeed, you are receiving mail into your
old PST, then it must be the default (unless you are using rules to redirect
your messages). If it had been correctly designated as the default, you
could then close the other.

I suspect you migrated data incorrectly and now have a corrupt profile.
You'll need to create a new profile and migrate data correctly this time.
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

Thanks, Oliver. I had it almost right... had all the email accounts going
to the right place, but had not yet udpated the defaul for the "data files"
tab. Once I did that, it worked.

I have a question in this area. I upgraded my desktop to Vista after
being told it was compatible, only to find out it was not. I had to
reformat my C drive and reinstall WinXP. On Vista I had also updated
to MS Office 2007. I currently have MS Office 2007 on the revised XP
system, but need to get the Output.pst file with my many contacts from
the backup I had prior to reformatting. I looked through my backup
folders (I normally back up the entire system), but am not locating
the Output.pst file. Can someone point me in the right direction. I
have not started Outlook 2007 on the new system yet in the hope of
getting that pst file.

Thanks for any insights.
