i was looking at hp pc recovery and on destructive recovery i accidently hit
next and a bar showed. no cancel button so i just turned off my computer when
i turned it back on it goes to a screen which says it cant start up because
"<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. is missing or corrupt. please re-install a
copy of the above file."
Can anyone please tell me how i can re install that. i dont have recovery
disks so that is out of the option.

if you are able to get into safe mode by pressing f8 on boot, then do that.
from safe mode.

1. press windows key and 'r'
2. type sfc -scannow
3. you will need to point it to the disks that came with your computer, or
get a copy of
windows xp from your local retailer.

other then this option... have fun formatting with the hp disks...
