In my attempt to stop having to log in to my XP Home Edition Machine I
deleted all users except the administrator and left the user must enter a
user name and password to use this computer option selected. Now when the
computer boots up it goes to the welcome window/logon screen and sits there
with no user button waiting for me to select something that isn't there. I
can't get into my system. My only option is to shut down. How do I fix this
problem?

Do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice at the Welcome Screen to get the classic logon box.
Type in the name of your user account and password. Once in, go to the User
Accounts applet in Control Panel and make adjustments accordingly.

By default, in XP Home, you can only log into the Administrator account in
Safe Mode.

So if you deleted all the other user accounts, the behavour you see - a
welcome screen with no users - would be expected.

Power down and restart, pressing F8 to get the Safe Mode screen, and then
you will see Administrator on the Welcome screen. The default password is
blank (press Enter). Then, you cna create new users and start in regular
mode.

You will *always* have to log into XP, it's the nature of the system. You
can get it to *appear* that you don't, by setting a blank password (not
recommended), or using a couple of tweaks to save the password and
autologging into a specific account. But even then, you still technically
have to log into an account.
