My child deleted the administrator account (no password) on his laptop (XP)
and now we cannot access any documents created under that account. How can we
restore it, anyone? Thanks.

No Worries... You can't delete the built in administrator account.

Try this : boot laptop, if Welcome screen is blank (no user listed) tap
ctrl-alt-del keys twice. In the legacy Windows Log on box that pops up,
type "administrator" (no quotes) and click go or log on. You can also use
safe mode. The built in administrator will appear on the screen. Click on
the icon. Once Windows is open on the desktop, you'll need to Check to see
If his \username folder is still present in \Docs & Settings folder *. If it
is proceed to next step. Create a new account, with administrative
priveliges using User Accounts in the control panel.

Next, right click on my computer, tab advanced, click on user profiles. See
if old account is still listed by \username or "account unknown". If its
listed by "\username" you're going to use the copy profile to... button...
to copy all his files and settings from old into new admin account you've
created. If the account is listed as "account unknown" Delete the
account ( it clears the account profile information from registry, but will
not delete the \username folder in Docs and settings.) Log onto the new
account and move his files manually from \username to \new username.

Notes: * You should check to see at this when clicking on his old username
folder, if you get an "access denied" error. If you do, then he most likely
made his folder private. You'll need to use the new administrator account
to take ownership of the file, and its contents. If he didn't... then you
should be able to copy everything he had to the \new username folder before
deleting the old \username folder.

If you get stuck, post back.
