Hello, this is my problem:
I'm using Outlook 2010. I have had this problem before with Outlook 2007 and
it fixed itself after a few days, but now I don't know how to fix it.
I am at the inbox, I delete a message, using the delete key or the X on the
ribbon. The message disappears and appears in the deleted mail folder. No
error message or anything. I can continue working with Outlook and the
message stays deleted. Now I close Outlook and start it again. The message
has disappeared from the deleted mail folder and is back in the inbox.
I have run scanpst.exe and repaired the .pst file to no avail.
Same thing in offline mode.
Can anyone help?

Are you using an Exchange account?

This is a home computer and I'm using a normal POP3/SMTP account provided by
my ISP. Thanks for your help.

Does it happen if you start Outlook in safe mode? Hold Ctrl while you start
it.

Same problem in safe mode. Also, I have noticed that the calendar has the
same problem. Any change, addition or deletion of an appointment reverts to
the previous state after restarting the program. I'm desperate. What else
can I do?

OK, I just found a solution. I have to wait 20 seconds after making the
changes before closing the program. That way the changes stick. Isn't it
weird?

Not really. Outlook 2007 and 2010 take somewhat longer to close completely
than prior versions and that's by intention. More happens during shutdown
than in prior versions, like closing out add-ins when necessary (although the
extra functions are not limited to that). See this:
