Keep getting an error message when I try to delete messages in my deleted
box. What do I do to get rid of these old unwanted e-mails?
Thanks

Try this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090
"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"

It works on other folders in addition to the Outbox.

"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

It works for all folders, not just the Outbox.

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee,
or a recent one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, although
seldom immediately, so if you have such a program, remember
where to find the fix - you are likely to need it again.

I've tried downloading and installing
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090, but each time I try, I
get a message saying that it was not installed. I'm at a loss and my deleted
mail is really piling up! Is there any other fix or is there something that
I am doing wrong?

Did you try both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version? One will
refuse to install, but which one depends on which version of Vista you
have.

If even that does not work, what if any antivirus programs do you have?
Some of them cause assorted problems in Windows Mail, although
seldom immediately.

Thanks for the reply. I did try both versions with the same result. My
antivirus is F-Secure. My problem with deleting email did not start
immediately, however, it did not take long. Any suggestions would be welcome.

That antivirus isn't on the list of those that cause the most problems,
but there are still people here who will suggest uninstalling it to see
if that helps. First, though, you may want to just disable email
scanning and see if that's enough. If it is, leave email scanning
disabled.
