Deleted Items - returning

I have a user who is on OL2003 using Exchange 2003.

When she deletes email items they go to her Deleted Items folder as she
expects. At the end of each day she will close down and then the items are
automatically deleted from Deleted Items folder (option not a rule).

However it has been noted that some of her Deleted Items have appeared in
her Inbox folder again 2 months later.

What could cause Outlook to behave like this as the user does not have any
rules set on her profile for such behaviour.
Any ideas gratefully received!
