A user in my department has had some strange things happening recently in
Outlook. She has Outlook set up to automatically delete all items in the
Deleted Items folder each time outlook is closed. However, yesterday she saw
Deleted Items from April 2007 back in her Deleted Items folder, when this
should be impossible, since all messages are deleted when Outlook is closed.
Why would they come back? Are they still on the server somewhere?

I've seen other posts about messages reappearing with Exchange, but I don't
recall what the responses have been. Perhaps asking in the Exchange Admin
newsgroup or using Google Groups to look for the other posts may prove
fruitful.
