Restore from your latest backup. If you delete them from Deleted Items they
are gone.

Recover from your backup, you do have one?
The Deleted folder can be set not to empty when you exit OL

Well, it _can_ be set to delete on exit. It just shouldn't, unless users
want to lose that data permanently.

yes I have it set on Delete when i exit. I always thought this was a good
idea. I have been trying to find a back up with these contacts in, but if I
copy a duplicate Outlook PST file back into the Outlook folder will this
work. I have tried to restore as I'm on Vista and have it set to Back up
every night but cannot find it in the Deleted items folder or anywhere??? Can
I recover from a Shadow Copy??

What is a shadow copy? Backing up Outlook data is not difficult. You make a
copy of your Outlook data file.

A system restore does not have any affect on data, only settings

If you find a backup data file, open it within OL and see whats there - do
NOT import it
I dont use Vista backup, but a third party dedicated backup tool, so I
cannot offer anything on Vista backup
The MS Outlook Site has a free OL backup addin

No idea. I make my own backups. It's safer.

Typically, shadow copies are not historical backups or previous versions.
What they are is a copy of a file as it exists. Each time you make a change
to the original, the operating system duplicates that change in the copy.
If you make a mistake and loose part of a file, it could very well be that
that mistake will be replicated to the copy. It dpends on how frequently
the operating system makes a copy of the original.
