After saving a file that has a deleted chart in it, I cannot access the file.

It's very unlikely that your problem is related to deleting a chart. Maybe
you should explain what you mean by "cannot access the file."

An error message appears when I try to open the file that says something like "Can not open file"

I have tried to duplicate and it always happens when I delete a graph, save the file and then try to reopen it

Today I copied a worksheet that had a chart in it. I later deleted that chart and then deleted the worksheet, saved the file, closed the file and later tried to open the file and got the error message.

Where is this file saved? On a network device? A removable medium?
If so, can you save and open from your local hard disk?

What version of XL are you using? Does it have a support release that
you should install?

Have you checked the MS KB (support.microsoft.com) for the problem?
