XP boots up but is so full of bugs that I want to return to
using Win 98. How do I get rid of it?

Windows XP is not "full of bugs". Consider performing a "clean install".

1. Delete the Windows XP partition.
2. Create a new partition.
3. Format the new partition.
4. Install your desired Operating System.
