I have published a web site to a new server - Server1.
And we would like to delete it via FrontPage 2003.
However, the delete button is dimmed. Is there any way I
can delete the web site ?

Thanks

If it is a root web, then you have to delete the web on the actual server. If it is a subweb, just
open the root web, select the subweb, right click and delete.

Now if you just want to delete the content of the web, open the web in FP, then make sure you have
FP set to allow you to see any hidden folders, then switch to folder view, select everything, EXCEPT
the _private and images folder, then delete. For the _private folder and images folder, just delete
any content within them. Finally, run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks.

Dear Thomas,

Thank you for your advice.

I would like to know why we have to keep the _Private and
_Image folder ?

Because FP creates them expect them to be in the root web and any subwebs. The _private folder has
special permissions assigned by the extensions when the extensions are applied, if you delete it a
then manually create it, the permissions are not re-assigned, until the extensions are re-installed.
The images folder doesn't have any special permissions, but FP does expect to see it since it
created it.

I have deleted everything. In this way, I have to re-
install FP Extension on that Server before I get back the
_private folder ?

Thanks

First the only way to see the _vti folder is outside of FP.

These are managed by FP and should never be touched by us users. If you delete the content of the
web from within FP, which will maintain the FP extensions on the site, then FP will manage the _vti
folders as needed.

If you use Windows Explorer or on a remote server use FTP, then you have destroyed the FP extensions
and any permissions associated with the web by FP.

HI! thanks thomas, this is a really good thing for me to know as I am one to
often resort to the old manual ways of doing things when things go wrong
with wizards and automated programs that do things that I cannot see what's
happening.
