how?

some files cann't be deleted under XP,saying"acess is denied"

Vista is not a program that you can just delete from XP. Format the
partition Vista is on.

I think one would also have to run fixmbr from the XP CD. Something like
that because the XP boot.ini would also have to be there.

I am assuming that he installed Vista on a second drive. I would use
VistaBoot Pro to remove the Vista bootloader and it should then be OK to
format the Vista drive. Or am I missing something, Frank?

He should also be able to run bootsect /nt52 c: from x:\boot where x is
the letter of his DVD drive.

Or if that don't work try:

Type in "e:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force" (without quotes, and
replacing e: with the drive letter of your
Vista DVD).
