Delete Shared Documents Folder

We have been having problems with sharing permissions from the Shared
Documents Folder on our peer to peer network with all computers running XP
Pro. They have all be upgraded from XP Home.

The problems occur when we try to use any files which originally were in the
Shared Documents Folder. An example is if we copy files or folders from the
Shared Documents Folder to a network shared folderX (on same computer in C:\
directory) we get messages that info is not shared when trying to access
from other machines on the network. When we use files or folders created in
the folderX no problem sharing.
What affect will deleting this folder have? Will Windows XP operate without
the Shared Documents Folder?

Thank you.
