Delete "sent items" is greyed out

One of our users insists that she use to be able to delete items from her
sent items folder in Outlook 2003. When I looked at her sent items folder,
Delete "Sent items" and Rename "Sent items" are greyed out. When I looked at
the same settings in my Outlook, both were also greyed out. Is there a
setting that causes these items (and possbile others) from being greyed out
and unable to be selected? What could be causing this?

Maybe Outlook is using the folder to store sent items, and deleting it would
screw things up?

But at some point in time, you would want to be able to clean up your old
emails and prevent this folder from getting too full.

delete the messages in the folder, not the folder itself...
or, make a new folder- Old Sent Items, and move messages to it

Thanks for the reply. I think I understand now. So let me get this
straight. If I create a folder, I should have the ability to rename or
delete it. but if it is a Outlook generated folder, like sent items, outbox,
inbox, drafts, I should not be able to delete or rename these folders. Is
that correct?
