Delete Segment in Freeform Autoshape

Have created a freeform autoshape (bus route on map)but
want to break the freeform (route) in the middle. Appears
that the DELETE SEGMENT option under EDIT POINTS would do
the trick, but it is shaded on the menu and not
available. Can a freeform object be separated by deleting
a segment between two points in EDIT POINTS? If so, how?

I don't think you can do that. I hope someone can prove me wrong, 'cuz the
way you are trying to use it would be very handy.

The Delete command seems only to work on a closed path (where the end
rejoins the start point). In such a case, the Delete command will work.
BUT... it only allows you to delete ONE segment. Because when you delete the
first segment, the shape becomes an open shape where the Delete command no
longer works... again.

It's kinda like the opposite of the Close Path command. In fact they could
have name Delete Segment as Open Path. Because that's all it does. It allows
you to remove one segment to make the closed path open.

Probably not the news you wanted to here, but that's the best I can do. ;-)

One approach:

Dupe the object then delete half the points, delete the other half from the
original and you're gold.

Yeah, that's a good solution. Line it up first and then delete half the
points on each. Good deal.
