When I upload my web site, using local to remote, and files on the server, in
the same directory, but not on the local are deleted. They show up in the
log file as "deleted". The only way I can prevent this is to copy any
folders to the local site before uploading my web site with changes. I know
dreamweaver has an option to enable this function... does Front Page? How
can I stop this.. its s big pain/

Convert the folders in the online FP web you don't want published to FP Subwebs
and mark the files you don't want published as Do Not Publish

Is this normal behaviour, ie delete remote files that are not found on local
site?

How do I set up a subweb. The files in questions are secure files that are
created within the remote hosting site control panel, but placed in same
directory that fp gets uploaded to. Thank you...

Yes - if you publish Changed pages only. It is a feature of FP's web
management.

To set up a subweb, open the remote site in FrontPage, right-click on
the folder and choose "Convert to web" from the context menu. Your
host must support subwebs, some don't.

Thanks. I use "local-remote", publish changed pages. I was surprised as I
would think that folders on remote would remain intact with this command. I
can see "synchronize" doing this, but after warning you. I know in
Dreamweaver you can turn off "delete remote files not on local". Is there
any way to turn off this feature in front page, or simply update changes to
my web, but leave along any files created through the web server.

To correct the problem, what I do is before "publishing", I copy the remote
folders to my local site using the arrow between the loacl and remote area,
and then publish "local to remote" In subsequent uploads will any date
entered on the web server into these folders be deleted?

Publish all Pages in FrontPage will not delete anything from the
remote site, but it will "Publish all" files, whether changed or not.
If the remote folders are subwebs, FrontPage will ignore them.

If you copy the folders and files into your local site, mark them as
"Do not Publish" (right click, and choose "Do not publish" from the
context menu. Any new files in the folders will be deleted (FP will
ask first).

Why does "published all changed pages" (local to remote) delete remote files
not on the local server. One would assume only changed pages would be
updated. How do you "publish all pages" and leave unmatched folders on
remote alone. Any editing of my site is done on the local end and uploaded.

"Publish changed pages" is designed to upload all changed pages/files
and delete any files on the remote web that are not on the local - it
is by design, whereas "Publish all pages" will simply upload every
page not marked as "Do not Publish", and ignore any pages on the
remote that are not on the local.

To change the setting, in remote site view (FP2003) click on Remote
Web Site Properties. Then on the publishing tab select Changed Pages
or All pages, and choose (or clear) Include subsites .
