is there a way to remove the user profile upon logoff? I
tried to delete the profile in logoff script, but got
access denied message.

For roaming profiles, this can be done with group policy, the following option:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\User Profiles, "Delete cached copies of roaming profiles".
