After my spam filter moves messages to a folder, I just mark them read to after
my "you've got mail" envelope comes up with Outlook 2000 (I really hope that
they have fixed this for more current versions!!!).

At the end of the day, I review my spam, and delete it.

What I would like to do is delete it permanently now, instead of copying it to
my delete folder.

I keep messages in my delete folder to auto-purge in a couple of months. But
this is filled up with spam!

I'm thinking I should create a sub folder to my deleted folder, move the spam
there, and then delete from there. Is there a better solution?

Howard, for any message, you can right-click it and select Delete from the
shortcut menu *while holding down the Shift key.* That deletes it
straightaway.

You can also select multiple messages, right-click them and select Delete,
holding down the Shift key as you do so, to delete them all straightaway.

And here's something to look forward to: In Outlook 2003, Outlook sends junk
mail straight to the Junk Mail folder. Delete it from there and it's gone
for good.

Testing. That works. In a couple of months, my delete folder will be much,
much smaller.

That's nice. I hope it works the same way if I use a third party filter to
move to the Junk Mail folder. Since the junk mailers keep getting more
creative, I want something that I can upgrade often. (right now my bane is
e-mail seemingly sent by myself - which is hard to filter since my last name is
my domain).

I've been trying to get my work to upgrade mainly so that I can send Out of
Office replies to only people on one of my contacts list (I don't want to
broadcast my status to all spammers and listserv users). But this is a plus.

Is Outlook 2003 smart enough to know that we don't want the You've Got Mail
envelope popping up when we get spam?
