I inadvertantly (bestway to say I screwed up and
deleted \WINXP\system32\config\SYSTEM and could find no
way to restore it. I got into a loop with the "type r"
command. I could not get my cd rom install to get to
where I could "get to" the corrupted or missing install.
I was able to reinstall WinXP home anew but it was
a "virgin" install and My Documents and a lot of
meaningful stuff to me was not there. There are now no
less than four installs of windows on my C:\drive and all
I want to do is to get to the third one (the fourth one
is the newest one)and fix it and get rid of the others.
There has got to be a way even if I have to uninstall the
new fourth one (if I knew how). Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Remove the installations from the boot.ini and then delete the corresponding
directories. So if you installed into Windows, Windows1, Windows2 and
Windows3, remove the Windows3 directory on your machine and the line in the
boot.ini that points to it.
