Sometimes old control panel entries remain after I have uninstalled the
aplications that put them there. I have two left over from old scanner
applications and/or scanners I no longer have. One such control panel ap is
"Caere Scan Manager" and the other is "HP ScanJet Scanners". They are just
an annoyance, but I like to keep my machine as clean as possible. There is
no uninstaller or right-click option to get rid of them. What can I do?

Hello Gary,

Get TweakUI here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

You want the 147KB download on the right.

In TweakUI go to Control Panel and uncheck the ones you don't want.

You can delete with with regedit.exe from this location:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Search your drive for .cpl files and doubleclick. Delete those applets
when found.

If it's programs still listed in Add and Remove Programs, you can use
this:

I think you misunderstood the question. As I understand it, the OP
wants to delete entries from the "Add/Remove Programs" screen.
He does not want to delete icons from the Control Panel. Doing
so might not be such a good idea.

Well - maybe yes, maybe no. The OP may want to clarify his posting.
Anyway, if you're right, these articles may help:

"Removing Invalid Entries in the Add/Remove Programs Tool"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310750/en-us

"How to Manually Remove Programs from the Add or Remove Programs Tool"

Pegasus: It was about getting the icons out of the control panel.

TweakUI did it. I should have thought of that. When I haven't used it
in a long time, I tend to forget it's there. Deleting the .cpl files would
have also worked, but I decided to let them stay.

Thanks, guys!

I don't think you read it close enough. The Subject line states
"control panel". The OP clearly stated he "uninstalled" the programs
and the control panel entries remain and he wants to know how to remove
them. If the program has been uninstalled, removing left over icons
from CP won't cause any problems.
