delete key for highlighted word/sentence not working

In Windows word 2003, when highlighting either a word, sentence or paragraph,
the delete key does not work. Instead "Delete Block? No(yes) appears. He do I
reintroduce the delete key instead of having to use the mouse to depress cut
icon?

Go to Tools - options - on the general tab remove all checks next to the two
Wordperfect items, that should solve it.

's Computer Specifications

I was having a similar problem, that highlighted text would not be
automatically overwritten when I typed or hit the backspace key. It resolved
when I went to Tools>Options>Edit and highlighted the topmost box, "typing
replaces selection."
