Hi!

I hope someone could help me with my problem... I completely understand that
the folder I specified in the Subject of this question (System Volume
Information) is needed on drives in the computer. But I'm having some
problems understanding why must this folder be present on a portable disc
(NTFS file system).
Let's just say I don't need System Restore Points on the portable disc (I've
checked the System Restore options - every drive was being monitored, but my
portable disc was being considered as Offline - I guess that means no System
Restore for the portable disc). I don't even need indexing (stopped the
indexing for this drive - but, the folder System Volume Information remains
Read-only and Indexed if I look under advanced properties of the folder and I
have no way to change that, but would like to). All I want is the folders
that I don't need off my portable disc.

1. Is it wise to delete System Volume Information from the portable disc?
2. Is it possible to erase completely (with no point of return) the System
Volume Information folder?
3. How could that be done, even if it's unwise to delete the folder?
I'd really like to know how to remove that folder.

Go to control panel..system..system restore tab and see if you can turn off
monitoring for that drive.

I'm unable to turn off monitoring for that drive. System restore says it's
offline. I'm also unable to access the contents of the SVI folder.

I have WinXP Pro SP1.... I think security options (to change security
options for a folder/file, add a user who can have full access or restricted
access to that particural item) were added in SP2.
I wanted to add myself as full control admin to that folder. I believe the
default is always that only system can access it..
