Delete a file, folder is deleted as well!!

Here is the strange situation.

Folder1
+
+ Folder 2
+--------FILE1
+--------FILE2
+--------FILE3
======================

The above is a structure on a file server running win2k server SP4.
All users have mapped the server and they use it for storage.
A user deletes a file from FOLDER2 and automatically he gets the Folder2
deleted as well.
One will say that its a user error or he accidentally deleted the folder as
well, but it happen twice in the same user and once on a different user
(same situation)
Both clients w2k sp4.

Is their a reason for this or its a coincidence ?
I would appreciate any feedback.
