Delete a document from a message while retaining the message

Is it possible to delete an attachment from message with out deleating the
message. Looking to do so to retain the e-mail but save room in my files.
Use to be able to do this in Lotus and when I did only the file name would
remain which is exactly what I need

Right-click on the attachment - Remove

You'll need third-party software to do this in Outlook AFAIK...
