How to delete a corrupted file or directory?

I tried to delete a folder and received the message "Cannot delete
01149699.cab: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." I then
tried to delete the file, itself and received a similar error message.

This is just a backup copy of a disk and is not in use. I need to eliminate
this folder. What can I modify to allow deletion?

XP Pro, SP2

Thanks much for your help in advance.

Mike
