Delete/change Read Only files

IN my home Windows XP Professional, I have partitioned my
hard drive for C: where I keep all the program files; E:
for all my data that comes & goes; and G: where I
temporarily store all the movies I copy from VHS and
albums from vinyl, so they can be deleted easily.
I either copied or cut the My Documents from the old C: to
the new partition E:. I also added another file to E:.
Both of these files have the Read Only box filled in green
(not empty, not checked) in properties.
Both of these are in the new partition E:. I want to
delete the added one, and rename My Documents to "My
Documents on E". I can not do this. Neither will accept
a blank in the read only box. In addition, most or all my
stuff in the new My Documents is now also read only. I
will need to delete alot of that as well, but can not.
I am at the edge of what I understand, and do not know the
high tech terms that well.
Many thanks for any advise.
