Delayed write failed....

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem:

IBM T30, 1.8GHz processor, 40.0 GB internal HD, 1GB RAM,
XP SP1

Installed "Best Connectivity" FireWire IEEE 1394A PCMCIA
CardBus card (3 FireWire ports)

No name, firewire, external dual IDE har drive enclosure
case.

Wester Digital 40GB hard drive in external case (WD400)

PCMCIA card is recognized just fine when I plug it in. I
then power up the external HD enclosure, give it about 60
seconds, then plug the firewire cable into the PCMCIA
card. Drive show up just like it should. Now the
problem. If I write _small_ amounts of data to the drive,
it works fine. As soon as I try and copy _large_ (several
hundred MBs), I get the folling error message:

Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file xxx
The data has been lost.
This error may be caused by a failure of your computer
hardware or network connection.
