I've seen the posts below related to 'Delayed Write Failed' error messages.
I too have a similar issue with my 500Gb MaxtorIII Onetouch drive (USB
connected) with my Windows XP/SP2 machine.
KB 330174 discuss how to turn the disk cache off for specific drives and to
modify the registry settings associated with caching. I've followed both
instructions to no avail.
KB885464 appears to be a similar issue for which a hotfix is available.
I've applied the hotfix but the problem remains.
The symptoms vary but they usually follow the sequence (a) Delayed Write
Failed (b) drive disappears (c) drive sometimes re-appears auto-magically.
Maxtor/Seagate dont have any useful advice, I'd gratefully take suggestions
from anyone else. I'm wondering if the onboard disk cache is somehow causing
WinXP to get its knickers twisted (but I can't understand how this may
occur).
Thoughts anyone?
