Delayed Write Failed error

I have installed a 200G WD hard disk as Drive G on a P4
2.4Ghz XP Pro desktop machine with 512 Mb of memory and
often when I boot up I get the following error message.
-----------------------------------------------------
{Delayed Write Failed}
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file x.
The data has been lost.
This error may be caused by a failure of your computer
hardware or network connection. Please try to save this
file elsewhere.
------------------------------------------------------
This error message appears in a balloon and if I clear it
everything seems to be normal.

The hard disk the error message refers to is G [the 200Gb
WD] and it is formatted with NTFS and the PC is on a
TCP/IP network with half a dozen other XP Pro machines.

The file x mentioned in the error message is different
every time but it is usually some strange name such as
G:/~$gs [with no extension].

The event log says the error is ID51. [the knowledgebase
has a fix for this error message when the ID is 50 and it
occurs on a server.
