Today I purchased a Seagate external USB hard drive, connected it to a
computer running a fully-patched Windows XP Professional, and ran
Backup to back up to it. This worked properly. Then I shared the drive
and attempted to back up to it from another PC on the network; the
network backup ran properly for about ten minutes, then aborted with
this error balloon:
Windows - Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Backup.bkf. The
data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your
computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this data
elsewhere.
The Backup report says:
Error: The device reported an error on a request to write data to
media.
Error reported: Unknown error.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.
The operation was ended.
And now all network drives on the machine that I was backing up to are
no longer accessible from this PC; trying to get to any of them gives
an error saying "the network path was not found". Other network drives
are reachable from this PC, and other PCs can get to all the network
drives on the computer I was backing up to. Rebooting this PC is the
only way to restore its access to these network drives.
The only references I can find to this problem all say that it was
fixed in Windows XP Service Pack 2. But these are fully-patched and
updated systems running the latest version of Windows XP.
How do I solve the problem, and become able to use Backup to back up my
systems across my office network?
