Delay in XP when opening mapped drives to NT

I have 4-5 workstations at work running WinXP Pro that
are all experiencing a strange problem. These
workstations log into a WinNT4 domain along with some
Win95, Win98, and Win2K workstations. Everything is
talking just fine, but the XP workstations experience a
delay when opening a drive mapped to an NT share. After
about 10-15 seconds the mapped drives open and everything
thereafter is fine - speed is very good and response time
good. After a short time of no use the problem creeps up
again. It's as if the XP Pro machines are disconnecting
from the network share and have to reestablish
communication. I am not experiencing this problem on any
of the other Win9x workstations.

I have searched Microsoft's Knowledge Base with no
success. I found an article describing a similar
phenomona when connecting to Netware or Unix server, but
not Windows.

Help! (please)
