I have a windows 2k server in a small business, there are about 5 windows
2000 pro workstations, all of them take about 5-10 minutes to boot up. If I
dont have the cat5 connected then the machines boot fine. Yesterday 2 machine
used to boot up fine, I reformatted them and now they take 5-10 minutes to
boot up.

Are they members of a Domain?

Assuming "yes". Use *only* you Active Directory DNS Server in the network
settings of *all* your machines (even the DCs themselves). Never use an
ISPs DNS in anything. Then on your Active directory DNS(s) go into the
properties of the DNS Server and add the ISP's DNS to the Forwarder's List.
Make sure any firewall device you have allows the DC to make DNS Queries to
the ISP's DNS.

These articles describe the same thing, but it takes them several pages to
say the same thing I just said in a couple sentences.
