Delay launching apps from shortcuts

Whenever an attempt is made to launch an application or open a file by
double-clicking on a shortcut, there is a long delay (approx. 1 minute)
before the application opens. Similarly, there is a delay when right-clicking
on a shortcut to view or modify properties. The delay does not occur when
opening the programs directly from the QuickLaunch toolbar or All Programs
menu.

The computer on which the problem is occurring is connected to a network via
ethernet, but the network administrator at work has not been able to figure
out the problem.

Any help with this nuisance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Temporarily disconnect all network drives in Explorer and see if the
problem persists.

The problem resolves when I disconnect from the network. . . except that I
need to be connected to the network.

So it seems that something over the network is interfering with launching
applications quickly from shortcuts, but the problem does not occur on the
computers of my coworkers who are also on the network.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

More likely that there are mapped drives that are not connected which
are causing the slowdown (Windows is trying to connect to those drives,
thus causing the delay). You'll have to figure that one out, but at
least now you know where to start. Try enabling them one at a time and
see which one (or ones) cause the issue.

Good luck,
